On June 4, 2020, at the Križevci Development Center and Technology Park, the company Codel organized a working meeting to discuss the application of algorithms in artificial intelligence. – In Zagreb, an innovation center is being established in Kajzerica, which would serve as a central hub for such technology parks throughout Croatia. From one location, it would provide a single point of contact for financing opportunities, knowledge exchange, and collaboration on international projects. – Antonić clarified, adding that the goal of such a project is to materialize Croatia’s innovation potential through products and services in the global market, through specific niches where Croats can, without a doubt, be the best.
– This is also a way for young people in this beautiful little town to create their future, their livelihood, and in a wonderful environment, create a new added value that enriches the entire community, but also gives people the opportunity to develop by acquiring new knowledge and on the global market. – Antonić emphasized that centers like these, which make optimal use of resources, can contribute to the development of the Croatian economy.
Antonić stated that the call for applications from the relevant ministry, such as Research and Development – Phase 2, which is focused on research projects, is still ongoing, the State Support Act for research projects, which received an exceptionally large number of applications, while European funds provide support of up to 60 percent, which can amount to as much as 30 million kuna.
– An integrator will also be opening soon, which will facilitate the connection of small and medium-sized enterprises for product placement in the global market, with a budget of 100 million kuna, while innovations in the S3 areas are being contracted and paid out, with an allocation of 640 million kuna. – Secretary of State Antonić explained, adding that the European Commission is in talks to allocate as much as 35 percent of the total EU budget to research and innovation.
The Secretary of State also addressed the coronavirus crisis, which has certainly impacted this sector, as it directly affects mobility and the development of certain business processes.
-Thanks to a high degree of digital technology availability, many things proceeded smoothly, specifically our calls for proposals. We did not stop evaluating, contracting, and paying out the funds. There were minor setbacks, but we managed to resolve them. We want the funds to be injected into the economy as soon as possible, because that will lead to a faster recovery. One month of this “lockdown” means at least two months of recovery. Summer is ahead of us, and I believe that people will move forward with a lot of optimism.” – concluded Secretary of State Mario Antonić.
